Which arkham horror expansion is the best
I will present them grouped by cycles and their respective release dates. Core Set Oct 14 From this point forward Fantasy Flight Games is changing the distribution model of the game. Getting rid of the cycles with deluxe expansions and mythos pack, instead switching to a Campaign Expansion and an Investigator Expansion. You also should probably have somebody in that town keeping things in check. For extra fun, you can activate hard mode and get Cthulhu, Dagon and Hydra all at the same time.
Innsmouth might be worth it for this group. We have the game down to a fine science, we rarely lose. It seems like if I do lose, its to the damn King in Yellow's requirement for extra clues to seal gates. Last edited: Aug 11, Innsmouth is very much Arkham hard mode. We also kept the game in a supression hold for a long while until Innsmouth came along. One time the Innsmouth expansion killed me in three different ways in one turn.
As an aside one thing I really like to do is to make two Mythos decks. Have one deck for Arkham and another deck for the expansion board you are playing. Even if you don't own all the expansions there are times where you will go three or four turns in a row where there is no reason to go to the expansion board. By having an Innsmouth event happen every other turn does allow for some gamy decision making but it also forces the party to be split.
My favorite tiny box expansion is Black Goat of the Woods. It causes extra monsters to spawn whenever a gate opens and some other things.
It is simple enough so it is easy it introduce but effective enough so that you will feel its influence often. It is my go to tiny box expansion. I really enjoy the King in Yellow when my friend brings over his playset. We tend to play that with one other expansion. Card sleeves — Most Arkham players sleeve their cards in order to make their decks easier to shuffle and to give their cards a nicer and more protected presence on the table. Deck boxes — It is nice to have smaller boxes for your various Arkham decks. Nothing fancy needed here, which is why the basic Ultimate Guard box is our go-to.
Trust us, it is worth it. We use these , but anything similar should work. Just be sure to get 26mm! They are a phenomenal addition to every Arkham night, and we created them to solve the problems we encountered during our own campaigns. The perfect upgrade once you have decided you want every Arkham game to be as good as possible. Mythos Boards — Another custom offering that we created in order to separate your investigator and his or her corresponding tokens from the rest of the action.

The overall presentation is excellent. The encounters are great. Rule 12 game master draws two mythos cards and chooses one can make the game either easier or harder. To make the game slightly easier, deal either the double of cards or one extra than the investigator needs and pick the one s that the most thematically appropriate to the character and discard the rest. The game presents a series of linked scenarios called a campaign where events from one scenario will often affect what happens in the next.
